Informed Choice Maryland has another Call to Action for Frederick County and Maryland parents.

Delegate Neal Parrott has introduced HB52, the Minor Contraceptive Device bill, which prevents health care providers from inserting a contraceptive device into the body of a minor without written parental consent.

Call to Action! Minors Contraceptive Device Bill HB53 protects the fundamental right of minors and parents to obtain fully informed consent – Delegate Parrott needs our support!

We at Informed Choice Maryland consider this bill to be crucial in protecting minors’ ultimate access to informed consent, and parents’ fundamental right to make decisions impacting their children’s health and welfare, particularly regarding invasive procedures which confer potentially serious and lasting side effects.

This bill will be heard before the Health and Government Operations Committee this coming Friday, 3/13/2020, testimony beginning at 1:00 p.m. – we are asking all members to testify if you are able!

Members who plan to testify, please arrive by 12:45 p.m. at Delegate Parrott’s office, 213 House Office Building, 6 Bladen Street, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Testimony begins at 1:00 p.m., but there’s no way to know which bills will be read first or later in the afternoon. Testimony for HB53 could be scheduled any time between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m.

If there is a wait, Nick Allman has kindly offered to give members who show up to testify a tour of historic landmarks around the Capitol buildings! (You may also use one of many lounge areas to relax during the wait.)

Please email your written testimony, including your full name and email address, directly to nallman@neilparrott.org by 11:00 a.m. on Friday, 3/13/2020 and indicate if you plan to testify in person.

Contact Nick Allman at 858-449-9430 for more information.

Many thanks for all you do to protect parental rights and informed medical choice in our state!
