Oops! These Omissions Were Calculated

Steve Gottlieb

Well, the Democrats got caught with their pants down during their recent convention. People who pay attention to things like a party platform discovered they removed language referring to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and any reference to God from their 2012 platform.

Party officials tried to play this off as a technical error. However, as the uproar grew, they quickly decided to try to put that language back into their platform. They even try to spin the incident by saying that President Barack Obama himself intervened to make sure that language was put back in.

There are reports, however, that President Obama, the leader the Democratic Party and of his own campaign, approved the original draft. The party had to try to make President Obama look like the hero here, as they are certainly trying to repair any damage with the American Jewish community and pander for their vote.

To put these references back into the platform, the Democrats had to take a voice vote which required a two-thirds majority of the delegates present to approve the change. If you watched the video on YouTube of this required procedure, you’ll find it took them three attempts before any decision was made.

What was interesting about the whole thing was that on each successive vote the nays got louder. Actually, when listening to the video it appears that there’s a 50-50 vote and not the two-thirds majority as declared by the chairman of the convention. Just look at the face of the chairman; he seemed confused as to what to do and finally went back to reading the Teleprompter, which told him to declare that two thirds of those present agreed to put the language about God and Jerusalem back into the party platform.

Basically, the whole thing was scripted. It did not matter what the delegates wanted as the party leadership realized that their deliberate omission was a real public relations nightmare. After all, it had to be deliberate. There is no way those two issues, which are discussed daily in this country, were omitted due to a “technical error.” They’re just too big to forget. It would appear that Democrats tried to slip this change through, hoping that people really would not pay attention to the party platform. Who reads it anyway? In the long run, they got caught.

That is not all the Democrats omitted from their platform, especially where the State of Israel is concerned. In their 2008 platform Democrats referred to the “growing threats in the region – a strengthened Iran, a chaotic Iraq, the resurgence of al Qaeda, the reinvigoration of Hamas and Hezbollah.” They also said: “The United States and its Quartet partners should continue to isolate Hamas until it renounces terrorism, recognizes Israel's right to exist, and abides by past agreements.” This language is not found anywhere in the 2012 platform.

While not receiving as much attention as the mention of God and Jerusalem, this is a very telling omission. Basically, this signals that the Obama Administration no longer views Hezbollah and Hamas as terrorist organizations, even though they are responsible for almost all attacks on Israel at this time; and Hezbollah has arguably killed more Americans than any other terrorist organization. Remember, both groups were considered terrorist organizations by the United States in the recent past. This president seems to have difficulty in identifying enemies and has no problem in snubbing our allies.

Along with these omissions there was another disturbing event that took place at the start of the convention in Charlotte. Prior to the opening gavel of the convention a two-hour Islamic Jumah prayer session was held. However, when Cardinal Timothy Dolan, of New York offered to say a prayer at the opening of the convention, he was snubbed.

Again, it gets even better. The two people invited to be the leaders of this Democrat-sponsored Jumah prayer session, Jibril Hough and Siraj Wahhaj are known radical Islamists. As reported in The Blaze, Dr Zuhdi Jasser, the founder and president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, said: “These individuals embrace Islamist supremacy and have demonstrated support for radical ideologies.” Also, according to The Blaze, “these two are leaders in the separatist American Islamist movement.”

This is the same administration that in the past placed what has been termed a de-facto arms embargo on Israel. This is also the same administration that pretty much let the Iranians know when and how the Israelis might launch an attack on their nuclear program. This is the same administration that tried to force the sovereign State of Israel to stop building housing in their capital, Jerusalem.

What all this boils down to is a Democrat administration taking a hostile stance toward our ally, Israel, to appease Islamic terrorist organizations and the Islamic world in general.

The omissions described above were no accident. This was a calculated move based on the radical and dangerous ideology of our president and some of the leadership in the Democratic Party, who allowed the platform to initially allow the omission of God and Jerusalem from the 2012 platform.
