Did you know…..

Joan Marie Aquilino

Did you know: That a teachers union in a nearby county is handing out postcards to send to the state demanding they fund – and more – the Maintenance of Effort budget for the school system when, in my last recollection there wasn't any money left to be had.

Funny how union officials are making their money on teachers’ back, yet they continue to ask teachers to do their bidding. Umm, why don’t union officials help out by making donations to the state to fund education? Or better yet, why not cut the amount of dues teachers are forced to pay. They haven’t been getting raises, so I’m sure they could use the union help.

Between state and federal mandates, excessive non-teaching paperwork, wasting time teaching to test and their own union mandates, there appears to be precious little time left for a good teacher to actually teach the children they are so trying to protect.

Let teachers teach, and you paid union officials, do your own jobs. As long as you insist on taking money from teachers’ pockets, then at least do the job you are being paid to do, (protecting teachers if and when needed), and stop inhibiting a productive learning atmosphere.

Unions, federal and state level education officials are doing nothing more than wasting money by funneling it to areas not necessary and getting in the way of teaching children. All those union officials need to be mandated to take an active part of day to day classroom teaching and if you aren’t qualified to do, so, then, please stop talking and go away.

Did you know? You can find many answers to questions and concerns you may have pertaining to you personally, your property, county, and statewide issues right here on this site: http://mlis.state.md.us/. Your tax dollars are running this site, please get your money’s worth and use it. How many hours do we all spend Googling silly stuff? Spend some time researching here also; it's a wealth of information that is fairly easy to navigate.

Did you know? That big box stores can't just charge you the cost of a project you contract with them up front?

You can pay it all upfront should you want to, but it's not a mandate and they must do it in two separate transactions. Always, ask what the policy is for your particular job and be prepared to quote the actual law. As always, buyer beware is so very important. See Business Regulation Article Section 8-617 (b), Annotated Code of Maryland.

Did you know? There are new draft regulations for abortion clinics coming http://www.dhmh.md.gov/regulatoryefficiency/pdf/Draft_Regulations.pdf

and

Did you know that Nail Salon and Tanning Parlors had more regulations than abortion clinics and when this subject came up that women's groups were against regulations being placed on abortion clinics? Regulations that do nothing but protect women and their health, safety and welfare. Isn't it rather odd that the organizations that are supposed to support and protect women want nothing to do with regulations that will help keep women alive?

Pro-choice is okay by these organizations; but, once that choice is made, they aren't so anxious to protect those very same women through that choice. I guess Pro-Life for babies or a woman isn’t all that important to Pro-Choice advocates.

Did you know: That Frederick County, along with the rest of Maryland, is going through a redistricting and the leader of the Maryland Senate proudly proclaimed his intention to turn all Frederick cobalt blue? Makes you wonder doesn't it.

They pretty much have all of Maryland tied up in a nice little liberal package, yet they are worried enough to make our little corner even more blue than it already is. Sounds like liberal democrats are in a panic. the tides are a turnin’. Here is the option four of your Delegates (kschulz@house.state.md.us, or kafzali@house.state.md.us - District 4A, phogan@house.state.md.us - District 3A, mhough@house.state.md.us – District 3B) have put forth what they consider a more logical and fair evaluation of the county and its registered voters.

Feel free to reach out to any of these Delegates for a more in-depth conversation as to this particular map.

Did you know: That the Delegates and Senators of Maryland have college scholarships offered to students living in their district?

Until I worked for a Delegate, I didn't know anything about them. I can't offer you the criteria because they are individual to each Delegate and Senator. Normally, most officials start taking these applications somewhere around February. You need to contact them directly to receive their personal application and timelines. Go to this site to find out more information: http://mhec.maryland.gov/financialaid/osfamdcapslive-surge.asp, and, should you not know what district you reside or who your elected officials are please visit this site: http://mdelect.net/.

Did you know: That Gov. Martin O'Malley is riding the Obama blame train (oh, no, I meant bus) now. Claiming Maryland's budget woes are the fault of the country, not his leadership. He can't take care of the state budget woes, so now it's the country’s fault. Go figure!

Guess he's learning his Obama lesson well. Why solve a problem when you can just whine about it, dance around it and blame others. Check out his latest blame game here: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2011/08/21/exp.SOTU.McDonnellOMalley.Part2.cnn?iref=allsearch.

Last, but not least, check out PlanMaryland if you want to be terrified or you want to keep your own land: http://plan.maryland.gov/draftPlan/draftPlan.shtml. On August 29th Carroll County will be hosting a meeting with Richard Eberhart Hall, AICP Maryland Secretary of Planning. If you want a little land around you and a bit of breathing room you better pay attention. It’s about to be taken away.

As always, we need to hear from you; so, let us know what’s on your mind by writing to info@thetentacle.com, or contacting me directly at Joan.Aquilino.Mcintyre@gmail.com.
